noni .. but .. のに

You must attach the prefix な when the first clause ends with a plain noun or na-adjective.

nanoni .. nevertheless .. なのに

ga .. but .. が [it looks exactly the same as a subject marker が]

kedo .. but .. けど

keredo .. but .. けれど

keredomo .. yet .. けれども

tokoroga .. however .. ところが

1) I am hungry, but I do not have any food.

Onakagasuita noni, tabemono ga arimasen.

お腹が空いたのに、食べ物がありません。

Literally: I_am_hungry but, food ‘ga’ there_is_not

2) I am hungry. Yet, there is no food.

Onakagasuita. Nanoni, tabemono ga nai.

お腹が空いた。なのに、食べ物がない。

3) I am busy today, but I am free tomorrow.

Kyō wa isogashī desu ga, ashita wa hima desu.

今日は忙しいですが、明日は暇です。
