1) at the airport .. kūkō de .. 空港で

 

2) in the post office .. yūbinkyoku de .. 郵便局で

 

3) Let's drive by the railway station. .. Tetsudō-eki de doraibu shimashou. .. 鉄道駅でドライブしましょう。

 

4) in Asakusa, Tokyo .. Tōkyō no Asakusa de .. 東京の浅草で

 

5) I swam in the ocean. .. umi de oyogimashita. .. 海で泳ぎました。

 

6) I will send the letter by air. .. Watashi wa kūki de tegami o okurudeshou. .. 私は空気で手紙を送るでしょう。

 

7) The house burnt by lightning. .. Ie wa inazuma de yakemashita. .. 家は稲妻で焼けました。

 

All these examples show the use of de to translate various English prepositions.

 

8) I don't like to drink coffee. .. Kōhī o nomu no ga suki de wa arimasen. .. コーヒーを飲むのが好きはありません。

 

Literally: coffee ‘o’ drink of ‘ga’ liking ‘de’ ‘wa’ is not

 

This use of de is hard to understand, but is always used to translate don't like.
