Maybe it would be a good idea to have the site accept new members after they have activated their account using a valid e-mail address? that way it might be easier to prevent people from spreading rubbish - an e-mail address usually points to a provider......

Also it should be possible to harvest the IP addresses of all users who have signed in and put their IP's in a list of accepted IP's - and probably create a blacklist as well....

I have talked about this with Laimis - he is responsible for technical issues - but still we haven't created well-working confirmation system :(

I looked at the memberlist and saw that a lot of them have very incomplete user profiles..... i can't imagine any of the members has something to hide - so why shouldn't they fill out a complete personal profile?
Maybe there is a possibility to block users ability to reply to a topic or start a new one until a user has completed his info ??

I have to disagree with you. Many of them even have websites, and stuff.

There should still be a way to force people who have no business here to either undisclose a lot of their info (among which a valid email address where they receive an activation code) or take their nasty stuff someplace else

I tried both. When I let the admin (myself) activate the accounts, new users have quite a big lag of registering at debesėlis. Sometimes the lag is more than one day. So I tried another way - letting the users themselves activate the accounts through a valid e-mail address. But this is not an obstacle for the spammers, cause they are in some way successful on this point. So now I'm back to admin-activation again, until I find a good anti-spam mod.

By the way, they have e-mails, interests, signatures, occupations and even websites, as Rodrigas said! Actually, the websites are the easiest way to identify them, cause almost all of them have websites, and only a few real members have a website.

I noticed the spammers sometimes had Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian info, so I guess the bad guy is quite local :).

O man,

over 30 new members signed up just on this day. The site may be popular, but I think the spammers are taking over :x

Can I have some admin rights please ? I will suppress all this spammers, at least the ones that are sure spammers, with names like AfZETdDgydrS.

I think the best way is to ask confirmation to an admin, but also adding 1 question in profile, like "why are you interrested in learning lithuanian ? (only few words)" so you can fast see if this is filled by 'oUgyiyfuyfuhrTY' or 'come on look my very good website' or I don't know what...
