I've been wondering whether some knowledge of Russian can make us go an extra mile while learning Lithuanian.
As I have seen, both language share a certain amount of similar words, like volk (RU) vs vilkas (LT), or syn (RU) vs sūnus (LT). Also, they share a similar aspect system for verbs, same cases and even a pattern of "unpredictable" stress on words.
The question is, does it really help learn some Lithuanian, if one knows Russian?

Thanks.

Considering that there are Russians who have lived in Lithuania their whole life and cannot speak a word in Lithuanian one might say it doesn't. However, that is not a question of simplicity, rather one of decision.
It does help indeed, but one should be careful not to be carried away by the similarities, cause there are as many, as there are differences. They are not as related as Spanish and Portuguese, not even Portuguese and French, I would say.
