Prisistatykite! Introduce yourself! :)

This is the place to say hi and tell a bit about yourself, why you're studying/teaching Lithuanian, what you think of Lithuania, etc.

I beg you to post only one message, because we don't want this to become a mess.

I know there was this kind of topic in the old forum (with lots of introductions), but I'm sure it won't be difficult to update yourselves. And the forum needs topics :).

Well, I was also Gediminas on Phrasebase.

I lurk more than post, but both of my parents are Lithuanian, and though I was born in the United States, I learned Lithuanian as a child until I was about three or four years old. Thus, I have basic conversation abilities in the language, but am clueless in reading or writing it. After the fall of the Soviet Union, my parents felt more relaxed with us learning about our Lithuanian heritage, and I visited Lithuania in 1995.

I've been trying to further my reading abilities by reading a English/Lithuanian lexical Bible. I want to teach my wife the language and hope that one day our children will speak it.

Well I forgot to introduce myself at once, so I'll be the only one posting twice here.

I am a Lithuanian guy from Kaunas, currently 18 years old. Soon to be 19 (in ~30 days). This September I'll hopefully move to Vilnius to study philosophy there. It seems a strange choice, especially as I'm becoming more and more interested in my native Lithuanian language. Though I don't want to study Lithuanian yet, so I could keep it as a hobby, as all languages are a hobby to me.

I noticed many of our Lithuanian learners have a special story regarding Lithuanian (like Gediminas, who, as I understand, has a nice goal to make Lithuanian his family language again ;)). My only special story would be that I sincerely love this language :). I often find myself marvel at such simple things like endings of adjectives :D.

And, of course, I am into smart things like history, literature and politics.

And I'm called Laimis, not Pigmalijonas :).

UPDATE: In one month I am going to study Lithuanian. I didn't like studying philosophy. One year wasted, oh well. I'm soon to be 20 years old :).

I'm Clive (Klaivas, CliveN from Phrasebase), I'm 15 and I live in the UK. I've been learning Lithuanian on and off for a while and I'm learning it because the language is seriously cool 8) I've been very busy with lots of schoolwork recently, which is why I haven't been on Phrasebase much.

Sveiki!

Mano vardas Chris (Krisas lietuviškai) ir man 18 metų. Man patinka lietuvių kalba ir Lietuva.

I'm sorry for my Lithuanian. I started learning it one week ago so I'm sure my text is horrible :o by the way, I hope you understand me :D Please correct me and I'll try to learn from mistakes

Labai ačiū :)

Sveiki visiems (=visi)!
Ypatingai man patinka Vilnius. :? Man labai patinka šitas puikus tinklalapis, labai idomus (=įdomus) ir naudingas. Sekmės (=sėkmės)!

HI, my name is Andrius. I am from Kaunas, Lithuania. I am going to be your new teacher, who will be always ready to help you to learn this difficult and fascinating language.

Labas, mano vardas Andrius, Esu iš Kauno, Lietuvos. Aš būsiu jūsų naujasis mokytojas, kuris visada bus pasirengęs jums padėti mokytis šią sunkią ir nuostabią kalbą.

First tip: when speaking Lithuanian, you can ommit a word "is", as I did in my first sentence "HI, my name is Andrius". I could say "mano vardas yra Andrius, but I said just "mano vardas andrius" - without yra

Pirmas patarimas: kai kalbate Lietuviškai, galite išmesti žodį "yra", kaip aš padariau pirmame sakinyje "Hi, my name is Andrius".

Sveiki everyone!

Starting with the most basic of all basics, mano vardas Rio. I'm learning Lithuanian because I feel it's very useful to know the basics of most languages. . . So far I can carry out basic conversations in Russian, Italian, Spanish, German, French, and of course, English. Latin too, though it's basically useless. Lithuanian was next on my list because I've a friend who uses it as a way to speak to me when he doesnt want me to understand. I so very wish to understand and surprise him with my knowledge. ^-^ Lithuanuan is seemingly much like Latin, what with it's declensions and such, so that's a plus in my quest to learn this language. So greetings to all! ^-^

Hello I am aussie from Sydney Australia, married to a Lithuanian man, we have 5 children and almost ten grandchildren, number 10 to be born in December. I am hoping that I may be able to surprise my husband as well as his parents by being able to teach myself Lithuanian. Though I realise that Lithuanian is not the easiest of Languages to learn.

first words Labas :)

Hey,

I was looking around in the Phrasebase and I found this page.
To be honest, I was pleased to see that pleople are learning our language as it's pretty tough.
The reason I'm here is mainly because I'm very happy you all are learning lithuanian and, as I'm lithuanian myself, I'm able to help you.

So don't be shy and ask if You need any help

Sėkmės visiems,
Ieva,
Lietuva

Hi all there, I'm Czech from Lithuania. Excuse me for my poor english, please  .
Labas visi čia, esu Čekas (=čekas) iš Lietuvos. Atleiskite man, prašau, už prasta (=prastą) anglų kalbą.
Ahoj všichi tady, jsem Čech z Litvy. Odpusťte mi, prosím, moji ubohou angličtinu.
I'm looking for forums, where I could communicate with Czechs, who are interested in lithuanian or Lithuanians, who are interested in Czech languages and other similar themes of course.
That's all for first moment. Tiek pradžiai. Toť vše pro začátek.

so, i happened across this forum searching for language tips and thought it would be a another good way to learn more about my heritage. im half german and half lithuanian. both of my parents were born in philadelphia. but my dad's side (the lithuanians) start back there with his grandparents. unfortunately..and hopefully not for much longer that's all i really know about anything lithuanian. my father is getting up there in years and i noticed a book he bought about this topic so i thought it would be nice if i had something to talk with him about on our visits.

little about me- i've lived in florida most of my life, spent some time in philly.. i'm in college (paralegal).. i have a 6 month old son -my everything-, 2 mutts -the rest of my everything-, i write and paint.. plenty of half-finished ones though..many, never.

i just wanted to join to meet people with my same background. i feel weird coming here and sort of advertising who i am..but there's no other way. i do look forward to meeting all of yous. i'm also so happy that when i clicked the topics that most is written in english. i am slowly trying to grasp the basics of lithuanian but i have the worst time learning languages. anyways, hi (lol)

Labas!

Mano vardas Elka, esu iš Lenkijos ir man 25 metai.
I've been learning English since kindergarten and Lithuanian? well, only since last year, 'cause I had this ambitious and rather crazy plan to move to Lithuania and to get marry to a man whose name is... hush! can't tell 'cause you might know him  ...but the plan had to be changed ;) so now I'm just a..
passionate Lithuanian self-learner-student 8) and last year MBA graduate ( still looking for a job;) ) teacher.

Sėkmės! ;)

Well, I had some problems with registration
