This section of DEBESĖLIS is going to help you build a vocabulary of verbs. We have collected over 200 most common Lithuanian verbs and are listing them alphabetically. Clicking on each letter, you will find verbs with English translations, example sentences and more.

At the bottom of every verb there is a list of prefixes used with this verb. You do not need to memorize all the list, only the underlined prefixes (since these are more common). The rest is just for you to better understand the system of Lithuanian prefixes.

čiulbėti

to chirp; (for birds) to sing

čiulba, čiulbėjo; ką

Čiulba paukščiai. Birds are singing.
Ką tas gražuolis tau čiulbėjo? What was that prettyboy flirting to you?
Žiemą paukščiai nečiulbės. In winter birds will not chirp.

atčiulbėti - to come by chirping (about birds)
pačiulbėti - to chirp a little
pračiulbėti - to spend a period of time by chirping
pričiulbėti - to say alluring things by trying to talk into something
sučiulbėti - to chirp once
atsičiulbėti - to get enough of chirping
prisičiulbėti - to get into trouble by chirping; by alluring
susičiulbėti - to plot against someone

Vaikas čiulpia saldainį. The child is chewing a sweet.
Vampyras čiulpė kraują. Yesterday the vampyre was sucking blood.
Ar vampyrai mums čiulps kraują? Will the vampyres suck our blood?

apčiulpti - to suck the outside(s) of something
atčiulpti - to end sucking something
čiulpti - to suck out
nučiulpti - to complete sucking something
pačiulpti - to suck a little; to complete sucking something
pričiulpti - to suck a certain amount out of something
sučiulpti - to suck a lot of things
apsičiulpti - to harm oneself by sucking
atsičiulpti - to get enough of sucking
persičiulpti - to harm oneself by sucking
prisičiulpti - to get enough of sucking
